Hello! Quest will meet this Sunday,
August 24 from 5:15-8PM at Shiland Hills. Please
bring $5 for the meal and pool fee, and
BRING A FRIEND! BASIC/Frequency
will rehearse at 4PM.
Friday, August 22: 6th Grade All Night Lock-In.
Quest’s “Orientation” Lock-In for 6th graders will be THIS
FRIDAY from 9:30PM until 8AM. Please bring sleeping
bag, pillow, appropriate XBOX 360 video games, guitar,
athletic shoes, etc. Snacks will be available (and you
are encouraged to bring some too), but please eat dinner
before you come. As for any youth activity, you are
welcomed and encouraged to bring friends; however, for this
event they must be in 6th grade. If you missed the sign up
deadline, please contact Austin Bond at
abond@stjohnsrh.org
or 487-4747 as soon as possible. A parental permission form
is required for this activity. Forms are located on the
information table in The Core (the first table when you walk
downstairs to the basement of the Children's and Youth
Building). It is ok to fill the form out the night of the
Lock-In. Doors open at 9:30PM. Please do not
arrive before 9:30PM. One more female chaperone is needed!
All Youth Council members are invited to come to the 6th
Grade Lock-In from 9:30-11:30PM to get to know the new 6th
graders.

Sunday, August 24: Back To School Bash.
Quest's Annual Back To School Bash will be held again
this year at Shiland Hills Racquet & Swim Club at 2540 Aspen
Terrace. We'll jump in the pool (so wear your bathing suit and
bring a towel), enjoy some hamburgers and hot dogs, and play
some volleyball. Please bring $5 to cover pool
fee and meal. Meet at St. John's at 5PM to ride there in the
church mini-buses or just arrive at Shiland Hills at 5:15PM.
The bash will end at 8PM and we'll return to St. John's by
8:15PM. If you are riding in the church mini-buses, you are
required to have a parental permission slip on file at the
church for this activity. If you have not completed a form in
the past year, please contact Austin Bond.
Youth Handbells. Handbells for Youth is
Sundays at 4PM and will be starting back September
7. If you are interested in signing up or want more info,

Youth Credits. As a reminder, the remaining
amounts earned below can be applied to any Quest Retreat/Trip
(including a Quest T-Shirt too); however, the amount is
non-refundable once you apply it to a retreat/trip and all
credits expire March 2009. Please contact Austin Bond
when you desire to apply your earnings.

Quest T-Shirt Final Re-Order. We have yet
again sold out of the 2008 Quest t-shirt so we will be doing
one more order! The deadline to order is September 7 and
the cost is $8 each. No extra shirts will
be ordered. The sizes available in adult sizes are: small,
medium, large, extra large, and double extra large. The
sizes available in children's sizes are: extra small (2-4),
small (6-8), medium (10-12), and large (14-16).
Quest Meal Sign Up. Interested in helping
provide a meal at Quest? We really could use your
help! August through December dates are
now available! To sign up, please contact Ellen
Parrish at
cloversc79@comporium.net or 628-6856. Remember that $2
per student goes to the families who provide the meal.

Sunday, September 7: Parent/Youth Meeting. Parents of youth are invited to join us at 7PM on September 7 in The Core. You will be given a calendar of upcoming events, have the opportunity to sign up to provide a meal at Quest, fill out (or update) permission forms (bring insurance card if applicable), and so much more. Quest will begin at the normal time of 5PM, however, please note that we will not provide a meal for parents this evening.

Saturday, September 20: FCA Annual Rally in the Valley at Clemson University. We will join more than 2,500 youth for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes' 17th Annual Rally in the Valley at Clemson on September 20. The gathering features special music by Elevate, speakers Chris Shepherd and Shelley Benthall (Miss South Carolina 2006), and an exciting football match-up featuring the Clemson Tigers vs. South Carolina State. The deadline to sign up is Sunday, September 7. The cost is $30 (which includes rally, t-shirt, meal, and game ticket) and is due upon signing up. Please make check payable to St. John's UMC and note Clemson in the "for" section of your check. Departure and returns times will be announced once the kick-off time is made public. Christian acoustic/electric guitarist Tom Conlon will be performing on September 21 at 6PM in The Core. Youth are encouraged to meet at 5PM prior to the concert for a meal ($2). Tom is a close friend of mine and one of the most talented guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter I've ever heard. Sunday, October 5: A Day of Fellowship. Quest
will join Methodist youth from across the Rock Hill District for
"a day of fellowship" which will include games (such as flag
football and dodgeball), fellowship with Winthrop University
students, music, and a guest speaker. Please bring $2 for
the meal. Meet at St. John's at 3:35PM to ride there in
the church mini-buses or just arrive at the Winthrop University
Wesley Foundation (406 Stewart Street) at 4PM. This event will
end at 7:15PM and we'll return to St. John's by 7:30PM. For

Sunday, October 26: CROP Hunger Walk. The
31st Annual York County CROP (Communities Responding
to Overcome Poverty) Walk is October 26 at
Winthrop University. Canned food will be collected for local
emergency food organizations. Even if you are not raising
money, support the fight against hunger in our community and our
world and join us for the CROP Hunger Walk! You can choose
between the short or long walk. Meet us at St. John's at
2:15PM. After the walk, we'll return to St. John's for a
meal together.
November 14-16: 10th Annual Tsunami Retreat. Join Quest as we go to Look-Up Lodge in Travelers Rest, SC (http://www.LookUpLodge.com) for an exciting experience which features music by Soulstice, speaker Steve Keaton, flag football, basketball, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, soccer, putt-putt, paddle boat racing, zip-line, Guitar Hero, and paintball (additional $10 - must be at least 12 years old). The total cost is $115. To sign up, a $50 non-refundable deposit is due by September 7 and the balance payment is due October 5. Please make check payable to St. John's UMC and note Tsunami in the "for" section of your check. We will depart at 5:30PM on Friday, November 14 and return at 3PM on Sunday, November 16. Saturday, December 13: Operation Christmas Child
Mission. Join Quest as we serve at Operation Christmas
Child's Processing Center in Charlotte on December 13. OCC
brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around
the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of
God’s love. We will help inspect and prepare boxes for overseas
shipment. Meet at St. John's at 2PM and we'll return at
8:45PM. The sign up deadline is Sunday, December 7 (we only
have space for 14 people). The cost is $10 (which includes
dinner) and due upon signing up (payable to St. John’s UMC).
You must be at least 13 years old to participate in this

The Core After Hours. Young people love to
hang out in The Core! In fact, we have had many children in
there even when an event is not taking place. Please
remember that for safety and liability, children 5th grade
and younger are required to have their parent with them
while in The Core. Youth 6th grade and up are required to
have at least one responsible adult with them.
Financial Assistance. As a reminder,
St. John's offers financial assistance to attend Quest
activities for those in need. Please contact Austin
Bond for more information.
New Youth Council Forming. If you are
interested in participating on the Youth Council for the
2008-09 school year, please contact Austin Bond for an
application. We meet at most once per month and
attendance at the meeting is required.
Name Tag. Have you signed up for a St.

St. John's TV Ministry Needs Your Help. If
you are technologically advanced or willing to learn about
operating the production computer and/or camera, the TV
Ministry can use you! If you would be interested in
observing and learning from an experienced member of the TV
Ministry, please contact Wes Martin at

continue to impact York Country via its TV Ministry.
